Purpose: All around purpose mobile laptop, durable (last 3+ years), using to take note in class, draw sketches, use ACAD (since I am a architecture student), average gaming, etc. I am willing to spend ample amount of money to a laptop with specs that will not be left out in 2-3 years or so.

All the touch screens I see are good enough for finger painting and not for technical sketches. This seems to upset those that are fans of touch screen tech but be sure that's not expected.

The office has a legion of Dells and we get 4+ years on them. I'm not saying to get that but there are far too many that meet the requirement except for durable. All will have a worn out battery in a few years so to call that durable is not the word I'd use.

Why are you looking in the convertible tablet

category? I have experience with Toughbooks and they are durable as far as being able to perform in the elements. Police departments use them in police cars because the can withstand the high temps in the summer. In fact our city police were using Toughbooks and wanted to replace them with durable Dells but some screens melted and they went back to Toughbooks. Toughsbooks are also used by the military for the soldiers in the Desert. They are built to withstand the environment but they tend to use less powerfull components.

Also you being a Architecture student you might want something with a bigger screen in order to do your drawings.

Basically any computer will be as durable as the care you take with handling it. There are some exceptions like a plastic versus a metal case or the type of hinges on the screen. I think in the end you will be happier with a laptop over a convertible tablet.
