Toshiba Protege, LCD stopped working after 90 days

I purchased a Toshiba Protege for my daughter using her money but my credit card. This computer seemed nice, my daughter loved it at first. 86 days after she got, while sitting at her desk, the LCD starting failing, distortions in the corner of the screen. It got steadily worse. To aggravate even more, Toshiba sent her to a repair center that had been closed for 3 weeks. then they mailed her a box, she mailed it in and they tried to tell her that she had damaged it and it would cost her $459 to fix. After spending $1000 on it. Then after many conversations with their support folks, they told me they would fix it but would have to send it back to her and that she would have to then send it back to them. AFter she got it, with no instructions, they are telling me they will NOT fix it now. I had strong reservations when she bought this cause I had a Toshiba Regza that stopped working (vertical lines on 1/3 of the screen on the right side. I have NO faith is Toshiba. What happened to Japanese customer service. Two products which failed in less than the life time. My daughters computer is still under warranty. They say it was damage. My daughter is extremely careful, kept it in a foam sleeve, in a padded backpack. BUYER BEWARE of Toshiba. I am shocked about this, i never would have expected this. I have friends from Japan who worked there, but I will never buy another Toshiba product again
