Buying a Laptop and Need Some Help

Okay so this is what I am aiming for, I am going to bring a Laptop to college however I have in the past just bought computers at clearance sales so I really don't know what's good or not. So for this laptop, I know I want it to have Windows as its OS, and I want a large amount of memory on it. I will be mainly using this computer(aside from coursework which even the cheapest out there can handle) for videos which I would like to be its priority. I would however like it to be speedy enough while transporting files or playing Visual Novels(or Jrpgs) on it. So obviously the games aren't going to be terribly taxing on it. As for a budget...I have $1000 to spend but it can be a little more if required, but the final qualification is that it must be a pre-built model as I won't be building one on my own.

Actually somebody recommended this to me as a good choice but I would prefer an alternative with a blu-ray disc drive even if it costs a little more

I just felt like my needs were more specifically minded than just a branching overall college laptop, that's all. From what I heard I need a dedicated video card for my laptop for what I want, but I don't know enough to make a logical decision on what makes a fast computer and the like.

Fast compared to models just a few years ago. If you were to look for the 10% fastest machines you push your price past 2K in a blink.

If you can't decide then I'll give a nod to any current 14 inch Dell XPS with current generation i7 CPU, the dedicated video you asked for and 8GB RAM.

Price it out at Dell.com.

yeah, i forgot to mention that my last laptop was a few years ago but it was one of the cheapest on the market so when i say fast, to you it is probably just average speed
