Laptops that can take abuse?

I'm clumsy, and tend to drop things a lot.
I'm looking for a laptop that can take a drop so I don't have to spend an extra 250 on an accidental warranty.
I'd like it to be $1000 or under, with a discrete graphics card.
It's going to be my everyday laptop, and the most intense thing I'll run is probably the Sims 3.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I know, but I won't be home 75% of time time during the school year.
I'm not going to drop it constantly or anything, but accidents do happen.
