But HP may still be using that Insyde BIOS which for me had a bug that made the laptop unusable. Not only that but their service system destroyed the laptop and later HP said they had done all they could leaving me with a dead laptop. All this inside 3 months of purchase.

For such a heavy price are you sure you can afford to buy a HP?

Without knowing the intended use, it's very hard to know if upgrades are needed.

For example the video upgrade would be something a gamer or a Photoshop maven would get.

Norton is OK but since we can get security for free it's optional plus you said "strapped for cash" so why give a dime where you don't have to?

As to overheating, ALL machines can overheat given the right conditions. You didn't reveal "use" so I can't tell if this is an issue.

I'm more concerned about HP's failures in the service area myself.

is that for gaming it isn't a big improvement over Sandy Bridge because gaming uses the Discrete Graphics card most of the time. I mean you will see a little better performance and maybe a little better battery life but nothing substantial.

As far as the SSD drive. You will want to use this as OS only on the SSD being that small of a drive. It will boot 5 times faster then a HD. SSD technology is still new and not a standard yet. The price is still to high and some people have said the failure rate is to high. (I've used SSD technology for over a year and I love it because I haven't had a failure and it's fast.) The 2 750 drive will just give you more space. I typically store large data files on an external drive.

The thing about gamers they never complain when they have tooo much resources in their graphics cards so the better chance of the machine playing all the games you like is to go with the better graphics card.

This is the system that I am going to purchase on September 9, 2012. I chose not to purchase Norton security system, because you can get AVG free, or you can get Microsoft security essentials free, or Norton security free through AT&T. I am a chaplain at the Lawton Fort sill veterans center here in Lawton Oklahoma, and I do a lot of video for Bible studies at the center, and Bible studies at retirement centers. I have had very good performance from HP laptops, of which I have three. This will be an upgrade from the one that was stolen from my home. I do however agree, that the HP support service has a lot to be desired; it would be better if I could talk to someone who could understand what I was saying; I do not like outsourcing. With that being said; I think if you tweak your purchase just a little, and add that extra protection, you will be satisfied with the product. My best to you. In His name. Chaplain Hogue.

machine I would stay with the 3610 processor and upgrade to the GT 650M graphics card. I would also get the SSD drive because it will boot faster.

Do you plan to experiment with Windows 8? If you purchase now you will have the option of upgrading for $15.
