Laptop buying advice forum: Processor and graphics cards

Processor and graphics cards

I have weeded down my choices for a new laptop but there are a few things I need to get more info on before I make this decision.
I have 2 models of Lenovo in mind.
#1 says Intel core 2 duo processor t6400 (2Ghz 800 Mhz 2MB, NVIDIA Geforce 9300M 256 MB
#2 = Intel Core 2 duo processor p8400 (2.26 Ghz 1Ghz 3MB, ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 512 MB
#1 is about $350 cheaper than #2. I just do not know what these numbers for processor and graphic cards mean.
I will be using this computer for photography work.
I tried calling Lenovo to ask them but they are closed today and I would like to get my order in online ASAP.
I usually run with many windows open at one time doing research on web sites, several other applications and notice that I have problems with this with my desktop and need to reboot quite often.
Both of these that I am considering have 4GB and 320GB HD. This is about the most I can find and am even considering having Lenovo change this to a 500GB if possible. I want something that will last me about 5 years without having to update. Of course I am sure the 4gb will have to be updated in a few years.

Then why the gaming video solutions? Something is not right here.

I've seen fine photo work done on simple GMA solutions. But then again the owner knew to get color correction with a Pantone Huey.

I do not understand your reply:

"gaming video solutions?" What is this supposed to mean. I did not ask anything about gaming
"simple GMA solutions." Have no idea what you are talking about.

I do not know anything about processors. And all I know about the card is from a sales rep at an electronics store who told me they had no computers which were the brand I wanted with either a radeon or gsforce card and not to consider anything less.

The Geforce 9300M 256 MB and ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 512 MB are what GAMERS go for. I asked because you stated you wanted to edit photos. For that I wondered if there was some reason for the high powered GPU that a game would require.

-> That rep is selling you what they have. Not what will do the job.

As to what GMA solutions are, it's your money. Would you use a search engine to catch up on what those are?

No, that is not how it went. He had nothing in the store that he could show me. He had other brands but he knew that I had already decided on a Lenovo and we went through all that brand up to a $1200 machine which also had a generic card. Plus the computer I am now using has a card which says Radeon and I will not settle for less than what I now have. I have dealt with this salesperson previously and know that he has been with the store for years and I trust him.

My workhorse has a much simpler card.

And it's fantastic. My desktop (another machine) has the ATI 3650 card and likewise I think it's great for my kid's games and such.

It's my choice to not saddle a laptop with such a video solution since I would be paying for something I wouldn't use.

However, that p8400 CPU is worth the dime so that's what I'd go for if those were my only choices.
