Administrator loggin account not recognized

When I set up my Windows 7 computer, I set up my login account as Administrator account type, username Mercury. Recently downloaded and installed a number of programs and put shortcuts to them on my desktop. One of these programs won't let me open it, demanding that I be logged in as Administrator. Two other programs won't let me simplify (rename) the name assigned on the shortcut icon (on desktop), also demanding that I be logged in as Administrator. I'm already logged in as Administrator (Mercury). In loggin account management, if I try to change username Mercury to username Administrator, this is disallowed, under the message that username Administrator already exists, which is untrue. What am I to do to make the computer see me (Mercury) as Administrator account type or to change username to Administrator? Thank you!
