Windows 7 forum: Microsoft says my Windows 7 is pirated; now what am I suppose to do now?

I had this problem with Microsoft before. However, it turns out that someone else had tried to use the key, and their system detected one of them as "pirated", even though both were on the same code. To resolve it, I had to purchase another code in order to continue using Windows 7. I'm betting the other computer that is using your code probably used a random ASCII generator until a code came up that actually worked. Like I said above, the only way to fix it was to buy a new code. Microsoft should really handle this, instead of just saying "It's all on you; you pirated it."

Wipe that horrible Microcrap software off the unit, and install Linux. You'll never have to pay for a "license" to use something again. You won't have to worry if it's "pirated" or "genuine" because you can build your own version if you want.
Microsoft has had it wrong all these years, if you PURCHASE their software you OWN IT (NOT "can use it until they tell you that you can't" or whatever.)
YOU can reverse engineer and rebuild things you OWN.
Since you can't do this with things from Microsoft they have no business selling anything. They need to either make their crappy software free, as in open source, and free of cost, as in open source, allowing you to modify, change, resell, etc. according to something like the Gnu public license. If they don't they're done for. They don't need to make money off of selling things you can't sell. (Software cannot be sold, only given away, and if they need money then they can charge for support, such as installation.)
Forget Windows 7 and install something like Ubuntu.

It would make more sense, however to simply copy it a million or so times and give it away. Why would you need a license key to install something freely available anywhere..most people have Windows computers, and all you'd have to do is clone their copy. I can see Microsoft selling the FIRST COPY of a new OS to someone, after that, I see no reason why anyone should ever pay for it again.
Free is free, and there is no such thing as "intellectual property" in software. You write it, give it away, and hope people can use it. You can't sell it! Microsoft has had it wrong all these years. They need to be shut down.

Use Linux, or buy a Mac. I gave up on Windows when Vista came out, and haven't looked back. Windows is absolute junk and I won't have my time wasted like that ever again!

I see a lot of thumbs down for Linux solutions, but no reasons why. I challenge the thumb down people to justify their opinion.

You do realize that much of the world still runs on Windows. Right? And successfully in most cases. Calling it junk just shows your ignorance. You obviously haven't used anything since XP. Vista had issues, granted. But Windows 7 took care of those issues. Windows 8 actually improves the product and is a joy to use if you give it half a chance.

FWIW, NO operating system is perfect. Linux and OSX both have their shortfalls. Some of them are actually showstoppers. Case in point. I have a client who wanted to migrate to a Mac environment for his office. The gotcha - his data. He couldn't migrate the bulk of his contact manager's database because the silly Mac OS based app uses the built in SQL server that's included with OSX. And for some stupid reason, the only means to do an import of data into the database is to use a Comma Separated Value (CSV) file. That means things like NOTES - which use sentences that use all manner of punctuation - including COMMAS - can't be imported.

DOH!

That means the notes he had on file for a given client, all of the past email conversations, and so forth could not come along with the basic information - company, name, address, city, state, zip, phone number, and email address... Needless to say, this put a major STOP to his migration plans. He wasn't willing to throw out nearly 20 years worth of data.
Microsoft, meanwhile makes it incredibly easy to migrate from one type of database to another with a tool called ODBC. All you need is the appropriate driver for the database format and you can migrate data all day long. In other words, it's far easier to migrate your Mac data to Windows than the other way around.

Way to go Apple! NOT! Epic FAIL on gaining customers. Why is this? Because Apple doesn't want business clients. If they did, they would do something to make data migration easier.

I just spent the better part of a day re-installing the OS on a laptop which *had* a recovery sector... which, itself, was corrupt. So, I had to buy a copy of Windows - because there's no way to get the original activation documentation from someone on eBay - it was just quicker and safer to buy a fresh copy.
This is for someone in the household who *clings* to her Windows as the end-all/be-all OS. The system ran Win7 for about 3 days with Avira AV installed, Security Essentials and Firewall all active and *still* got a massive rootkit three days after activation.
So, fixed that with my RescueCD. And partitioned the drive to smaller section for Windows7, larger section Linux Mint, which includes a install of VirtualBox to run those "can't-find-this-in-Linux" apps.

My USB stick has a fully working (Unetbootin-created) copy of Mint. As soon as I was able, I booted to Mint to check the system since Win7 was well and truly rooted. The screen resolution was spot-on, Mint found all my hardware perfectly, I was able to log on to the internet straight-away, etc... the laptop was fully functional right there from the USB stick install of Mint.

Windows7? Different story. First, the screen resolution was 600x800 rhino-ugly. Finally finished the install, now I had to find the drivers. Well, the OS doesn't include any drivers for WiFi or graphics cards, so I had to get on the Dell site and spend the better part of the afternoon downloading drivers for this thing.
Unimpressed with that... Mint found my hardware whilst running from a USB!! And Windows *installed* is clueless about the system.
Fail.
I'm still working on the install... and that's without *any* software installs whatsoever... Avast, that's it. Oh, and Chrome (which Avast installed for me - maybe they know something?).
On my USB I had my entire Mint install - browser/Office/system utilities/hardware discovered and ALL working - and the *best* Windows OS to date can't even start to come close to that user experience after *install*!!

I do avoid Microsoft as much as possible... I think more and more people are arriving at the same conclusion.

I was reading some complaints on the Amazon UK site today regarding the same problem. Some companies who are registered Microsoft sellers are off loading Windows 7 O/S at a cheaper price than anyone else. These are corporate O/S and as such are designed for a number of computers, and only have two years before they need to be re licensed. All the letters I read, and there were quite a few, were from people who had purchased the software from an Amazon vendor. The problem only came to light after one buyer spent nearly a year in contact with Microsoft, who had previously advised him to get a new number from the place he purchased it. The new number worked, you guessed it, for two years. The argument is still going on with MS over the case I believe. MS are not accepting any responsibility even though this dealer is a registered MS vendor. Nothing new there then; I hope this will help others when they go to buy what looks like a good deal, and before paying your money, check first, because as far as MS is concerned it is pirated. Even though you have a genuine disc and number, it's for business, and not domestic use. I suppose you could always come to an arrangement with the seller to give you a new licence key every two years.

I have been using Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit that I got from Newegg...haven't had one problem with it yet and it's been re installed several times over the last few years.
I have Windows 7 Home 64 Bit on my Dell laptop, and I have re installed it many times as well...have had zero problems.
So...it's just a mystery why you are having this issue.

Ditch windows altogether there are several good versions of Linux out there and Ubuntu works very good on my laptop and the virus situation is better using linux they are practically immune from virus and Trojan infections

This may be a "phishing" attempt. Be very suspicious - have you got a message about payment - by card - to someone claiming to be Microsoft?
For safety's sake, keep all records of your purchase, in case the sticker is a fake. If it was purchased from a dealer
it's a matter between the dealer and Microsoft.

I have received an invalid Windows XP installation message twice now after 8 years on my PC and I have a valid XP Professional disc. There has to be either a Microsoft and/or virus problem. I remove any virus from my PC with Malwarebytes and use an active Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). The invalid message appeared in relation to MSE to warn me that MSE will be invalidated on my PC because of an invalid XP. This may not just be a local problem. As automatic validation software gets more complicated, there may be a problem there.
