Help! Lost pictures after factory settings restore

I have an HP notebook running Windows 7 Home Premium. I restored it to the factory settings default and I accidently lost my son's pictures. He doesn't have them backed up. Any idea how I can retrieve them?

You can try either a free program such as "recuva" or send the hard drive in for professional services. The second option would be expensive and neither would guarantee success. Recovery depends on whether or not the areas of the disk that contained the desired data were overwritten during the restore process. If the pictures were in a physical area of the disk outside that used during a factory restore, you might get lucky.

best thing you can do that to recover any file is by using recovery software, but you must act quickly before that file will gone forever because everything that you do, installing, downloading anything you do can make this file lost forever, my recommendation is asoftech photo recovery program which you can preview your lost files and recover it completely http://www.asoftech.com/apr/

The more the PC is used, the lights dim more and more. Such drives are removed from service until recovery is done on other PCs.

Installing software like recuva is a good idea unless it's being installed on the drive that we want to find things. Hope you figure that out sooner than later.
