Ransomware Virus Need Help!

So my friends computer just today crashed from a ransomware virus, talking about illegal music and asking for 120 dollars. We cant get the computer to start up in any safe mode, in normal mode, or with a windows install disk. She can never get to her desktop or even a log in screen. Eventually her computer will just stop and freeze at some point before that. Help!

First off, take a look at the thread from Grif: http://forums.cnet.com/7726-6132_102-5098912.html?tag=posts;msg5165373
Do exactly as indicated in the thread. It may require getting some things while using an uninfected computer. If that does not do the trick, come back with results from the aforementioned activity, or preform a Recovery from the manufacturer's Recovery method. Most all provide a way to return the PC to like new condition.
If the make and model is provided, we can help if that is the route to take, then that will take care of the problem.

If It Won't Boot Correctly At All, Then A Rescue Boot Disc..

...is probably in order.. Follow the steps in the link below to create a Rescue CD on a separate "clean" computer.. Once the disc is created, use it to boot the infected computer, then use the instructions to scan for viruses/malware and remove the bad stuff BEFORE Windows loads..

Once you've followed the steps above and let the Rescue CD do its thing, then restart the computer into Safe Mode with Networking and follow the steps below to finish the cleanup.
