Good Morning:
I plugged my flash drive (which has data) into my laptop computer and I got this message:
you need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it. Do you want to format it?
Tried it several times but getting same response. Plugged it in my desktop computer but getting same response. How can I solve this problem? This is the first time this has happened.

If the drive is not working on the machine you used it last on or any machine you format it and then put your files on it again.
Often these events is where folk learn that these devices, while neat and handy are not totally reliable. All it takes is for us to yank the drive out or lose power at the wrong moment and this will happen.

Not sure exactly what data is on the flash drive and therefore cannot go ahead and format it. If I format it I will lose all the information contained in it. Infact I plugged in another flash drive in the computer and experienced no problem. What can be done other than formatting the flash drive?

You can try recovery software.

We have such listed at http://forums.cnet.com/storage-forum/?tag=contentMain;contentBody (currently top post "Lost and Found.")
To put files on the drive meant they were copied there on another PC so why would we lose these?
And again, we only lose what we didn't backup and after decades of computer use, folk have to have learned this lesson.
