Windows 7 freezes on Startup

I know similar issues have been posted on this site, but none are currently being discussed. My computer freezes on the "windows starting" screen whenever I have the USB hub built into my computer monitor plugged in. Everytime I try to start the computer with the USB hub plugged in to a USB port on the back of my computer when I start up, it freezes. If I unplug the USB port, start up the computer, and then plug it back in when it is running, the USB port works fine.

Does anyone know why that is or if there is a fix for that? It's not the end of the world, but it is annoying.

You can buy 4 port expansion cards for slightly more than what you pay for a powered hub. I did that so now have 8 USB ports on the back and 2 on the front, and they never give me a problem. I've had numerous problems with hubs, possibly because I usually buy cheap ones, but the expansion cards work flawlessly for me. YMMV.

I have gone through a few hubs as well and never had any luck. I think I will probably go with a PCI expansion card.

You'll want to talk to the machine's maker about this. Fair warning. HP destroyed one of our laptops trying to fix this one.

Custom computer

I actually built the computer myself. I don't have a lot of experience with working in the BIOS, but I will probably go with a PCI expansion card to add USB ports since the computer works fine with that one hub unplugged.

PCI USB 2.0 cards are pretty cheap and I've yet to find a cut rate maker (HP!) to fix this issue.
