I browsed a couple of other thread and it was recommended that I start my own, so here goes:
Windows 7
Pentium Dual-Core E5500 2.8 Ghz
6 GB memory
1 TB hard drive, 15% used
In the past couple of weeks, I've noticed the spinning icon next to my cursor pop up about every ten seconds. It spins for a few seconds, then goes away. There's no other noticeable impact on my system. I can't really match this with any system change that I can remember. I did just subscribe to a cloud backup service.
Opening Task Manager, here are the tasks being ran by the System:

Thanks for any input. I can see from the list already that there are some oddities.

It may not be necessary, but I would first run a quick scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. It's free and shouldn't take much time.

Do you see 'crss' listed in the Task Manager? Or is it a typo? The csrss process listed below it is legitimate and can be found in your System32 folder. (C:\Windows\System32\csrss.exe)
Also have a look at "What is SearchIndexer.exe and Why Is It Running?" You can try stopping the service as described, to see if it makes a difference.

It's csrss, not crss.
I see Spybot and Mcafee. A known toxic combo.

We've seen Mcafee not play well with others (other protection software) and above I spot one of the usual combos that result in very odd problems.

As a matter of fact, I installed Spybot to see if that couldn't fix the problem.

The conflicts are reported often. I can't know them all but you should use MSCONFIG to turn off what you can until you find it.
