shortcuts -- can I alter how they appear?

I have just gotten a new computer with Windows 7 Pro installed on it, and am going through the learning curve.

I have two questions with respect to shortcuts that are created -- usually via the drag & "create shortcut here" option.

1. Is there a way to make the arrow smaller, or if not then is there a way to make it disappear? It is taking up about 1/4 of the icon picture.

2. Is there a way to not have the words "shortcut to" appended. I can always do a rename, but that is a bit of a bother.

Between the two programs mentioned, I've gotten the shortcut icons to be the way I want them

The utimate windows teaker program allowed me to kill the added words of "shortcut to". It would have let me eliminate the arrows, but I don't want to do that. It has a lot of other tweaks that I shall explore in the fullness of time:-}}

The fxvisor program claimed to be able to choose between large, small, custom or no arrows. The small choice did nothing for me -- it looked the same as when I chose large. I was able to do a web search and find an arrow icon that works though, and selected it using the custom feature.

So now my icons have a fairly small arrow, and don't get the "shortcut to" appended when created. Problem solved, and so I'll give you a "this post anwers...".

You can't get rid of the arrow because that's what distinguishes a shortcut from a real file. You can remove the word Shortcut by right-clicking the icon, then clicking Rename. You can make any changes to the name you wish.
