File transfer question--win7/32bit to win7/64 bit

I have an older Dell Inspiron running Win7/32bit and I will be upgrading to a newer HP with Win7/64bit. I have all of my programs, files and settings from the Dell backed up on a 1 TB external h.d. I was planning on using the Belkin Easy Transfer Cable and just transferring everything from the Dell to the H.P. via the cable. I know that the Belkin cable will handle a 32bit to 64bit transfer. Are there any problems with doing the transfer in this way? I want to completely wipe the h.d. on the Dell after the transfer. Any hints or tips in advance appreciated.

You have to re-install your programs

In case you weren't aware, you can't transfer programs from one PC to another. You have to reinstall them. If you don't have the discs or downloaded install files, you'll need to get them if you want to run them on the new PC.

yes, I thought that might be the case. I have most of the executables in my download directory (which is backed up like everything else) for the programs and I have the installation discs for the important ones such as Office. As long as my files and settings transfer (such as bookmarks for Explorer and Firefox, documents, etc., I can live with re-installing whatever programs I need after the transfer is complete. thanks for the response.
