Windows 7 Installation Freeze Up?

I finally got rid of XP Pro x64; and purchased Windows 7!

I performed a "Disk Wipe" with "The Ultimate Boot CD"; which contained a Utility called: "Darik's Boot and Nuke 2.2.6 (Beta), did the task for me.

Here's the problem: When I start the Installation for Win 7 the 1st round is fine and the Computer ReStarts, and it starts to "Start Services",and some Registry Entries...THE SCREEN IMMEDIATELY GOES "BLACK WITH THE DOS PROMPT FLICKERING"? I tried letting it stay there for a while in HOPES that the Continuation of the Installation would continue, but NO LUCK?
Anyone know what's causing this? I've heard it could be a problem with RAM Memory? Not Sure!

But given so few details I can't tell which issue is affecting this PC.

Why do you suspect the RAM? Has it failed some test?

That symptom usually indicates a boot manager failure

Since there is already an Ultimate CD, try inspecting the partitions the install for Windows 7 made. It could also be a hardware conflict. Was the Windows 7 adviser run prior to starting the install? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor
BTW: Was the installation DVD left in the drive (should be still in there at this step)

Did you run the Windows 7 upgrade advisor prior to beginning of this project? It's really a must because it identifies any potential problems or conflicts BEFORE you try the install. If you didn't run it, you can download it from the Microsoft web site. Since your computer is presently in an unusable state, you'd probably have to boot from the Ultimate Boot CD to run it.
Since you apparently have an older computer, you could have special driver needs or some incompatible hardware. How much RAM do you have? How big is your C: partition? Do they meet the minimum requirements?

I tried all the suggestions and still could not successfully install windows 7 on my 64 Dell Inspiron 531?
I re-installed XP Pro x64 and I'm fine with it!
