Accessing Dell Factory image restore

Dell inspiron 580 running Win 7, I cannot access DFIR using normal keystrokes. When I hit "repair Computer" it loops me back to same screen. Is there any other way of retrieving this program? The handbook says it is on a hidden partition on the hard drive. Thanks!

Based on the Dell machine I have.
The restore partition is a rather delicate thing.
It does not take much to "bork" it.

What you need is the restore media.
If you don't have such a thing.........call Dell.
Yes....it might cost a few bucks and you will have to wait a week or so.

It's not clear what keystrokes you find normal, and what you find not-normal. Apparently, you should use the abnormal ones or something is wrong.

http://www.ehow.com/how_6793886_start-dell-inspiron-recovery-partition.html says it's f8 and then mention "Repair
http://www.tweaksforgeeks.com/tips/2009/01/how-do-you-access-dells-recovery-partition says ctrl-F11 for a Windows Vista one
and on my Dell mini 1010 with XP there is also F12 to go into the boot options menu which lets me choose between different boot devices.

It can go wrong if the partition is deleted, or you did some upgrading or fixing yourself.

If the recovery partition is still present, there's also the trick to use GPARTED (free download) to make that the default boot partition. But I can't look on your disk.

Usually this means the on drive recovery system is gone. Ask Dell if they allow download of the recovery media such as you read at the next link.
