Xfer old Vista HDD data to new Win 7 HDD with one PC

Hi gang, I need help. I built a new PC with Windows 7 and ironically my old PC's psu died just as I finished the new build and before I could transfer data! So, I took the old HDD and slapped it in the new PC, hoping to copy files and Opera's bookmarks and passwords, etc.
I can't figure out how to do this- Windows Easy Transfer only works with two PCs, and right-clicking the files (which I can see) does not give the option to "send to" the new HDD. I then burned a small file to a disc, and right-clicked on it and there is still no option to send to the new HDD.
Can't PCs transfer files between internal HDDs? What's the trick? Thanks!

It may sound odd but it's proper for what you noted to happen.

-> But why did you expect a right click SEND TO to have anything of interest? Do we need to discuss what SEND TO is? We can do that!

Since we can copy and paste FILES and FOLDERs why isn't that what you doing?

I know that many of today's newer users are expecting a lot more from Windows but it's a 2+ DECADE OLD OS and the wear shows in that there are a lot of very old ideas rattling around under the hood and on the dashboard.

-> So files are copied over and that's done. Only the folk new to this would MOVE files. That's never done if we care about our files. (I could write about backups but let's not.)

So, Easy Transfer is a dead end. It looks like you'll have to use the old StoneHenge Transfer Method.

Thanks Bob. The moment I read "copy and paste" I let out a big DOH! How that didn't occur to me is another topic! I guess I'm better with hardware than I am with software.

If you have a moment, I wouldn't mind reading your thoughts on the SEND TO function, since I obviously don't understand it as well as I thought, and you know your stuff.

I've got a lot of copy and pasting to do- thanks again for such a quick and accurate reply. happy

It's OK to discuss SendTo but a new discussion would be best

But let's just say that SendTo is a folder.

Here it's at
C:\Users\UpdatusUser\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

-> So to get an item/location/action into the SendTo menu (also known as the context menu) we have work to do. It can be as simple as putting a shortcut to a folder in that folder to as complex as you'll find on the web.
