Windows 7 forum: Local disk free space decreasing very fast.

On today's machines you should have 10's of gigabytes free. Once in a while you find someone trying to get by with very little. They ask questions like yours.

There should be 30gb free out of 232. But they run out really fast and then I need to restart my PC.
Any idea what to do?

And how do I delete my last post?

I can't guess why 30GB of space would decline in minutes.

If this machine was mine I'd first scan per Grif's advice at http://forums.cnet.com/7726-6132_102-5098912.html?tag=posts;msg5099421

If that didn't fix it I'd use HIJACKTHIS but only for the report. Then I would research each line of the report to see if what it does. NO, just because it's in that report is not a reason to remove it. This is to dive in and see what the machine is doing.

It's well discussed. If you are running that, uninstall and try again. What happens?

By the way, when I restarted, it showed me a window called performance options. It says that Windows created a paging file on my hard disk the functions instead of RAM and it's size is 606mb. Could this be it, or is it doing that because of my problem? Also if it's the problem, should I disable it?

Uninstalled and restarted. Still same problem.
Going to try to run the malware scans now.

All skill levels show up here. I didn't write about the task manager to find out which app is growing in size to cause swap file sizes to grow.

I never ask about Torrents. If you download apps and movies then we know those machines can catch the newest pests.

Antispyware found 11 threats in the mean time. I only hope it will finish up before the memory runs out again.

Grif noted to run RKILL first but your post is so sparse I can't tell if you are following instructions.

They detected some threats, and one of them found a trojan and said it deleted it. Problem still continues though.

Sorry but if folk don't follow the directions. Your choice but you have some awful issues here.

Rkill does not delete anything, all it does is kill processes. So if you ran Rkill and subsequently reboot, whatever was terminated was started again.

You need to run Rkill and then without rebooting, run an antivirus program to scan your computer.

Torrents, as you noted, can create some pretty nasty situations and having seen some issues with torrent use I have never been a fan of them. Some who use torrents on a regular basis also look into using items such as Protowall to potentially keep some of the bad stuff at bay but that doesn't always allay problems.
