Hi Kees,
I did it but I can only get 3 options: Sticky notes, unpin this program from the taskbar and close window. The option to create a new note is not there anymore.

all back to normal with the sticky but so fare i still have the battery problem and no answer for it.......maybe no one experienced somethings like this before.

yes the machine off and no AC. This battery is about 15 months old....not 18 but nearly there. This could be the reason???? Who knows ...........

Uninstalling and reinstalling power management software in Windows 7/Vista

In order to correct problems with the battery's power management software, follow the steps below.
1. Access the "Device Manager" . (Start button-Control Panel in Large Icons category-Device Manager)
2. Expand the Batteries category.
3. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall .
WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes .
Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes .
Windows will scan your computer for hardware that doesn't have drivers installed, and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery's power. Restarting Windows will have the same effect of letting Windows re-recognize the hardware and installing the correct drivers.

If that doesn't fix it, then shut down the computer, unplug all power cords, remove the battery, then depress the power button for 30 seconds. Replace the battery making sure all connections are solid, then plug in the power cord. Hopefully things are good.

Should be: "sfc /scannow" w/o the quotes, in cmd window. Press enter to start.

There is a space after "sfc", then "/scannow" Takes some time to check system files, so be patient. Under no circumstances do you think of cancelling the operation of the program once it starts.

Checking the C: drive for errors can either be started from Properties in the drop-down box after right-clicking the drive icon in My Computer (or similar in Windows 7). This is the easiest way. Three choices are presented: (Alternate cmd window commands are in parentheses.)

1.) Check the drive for errors. Does not fix any errors found. No system restart required. (chkdsk C:)
2.) Check drive for errors, quick check. Requires checkbox to be ticked off, but does not check for bad sectors or free space errors. Requires system restart to run. (chkdsk C: /f/v)
3.) Check drive for errors, full 5 step check. Checks for bad sectors, attempts to repair any found, checks free space errors and repair. Can take 40-60 minutes to run on a good healthy drive. requires system restart to run. (chkdsk C: /f/r/v)

Additional note: It is not recommended to allow "all handles on the drive to be removed". Type 'n' for "no" after this question. Type 'y' for "yes" to have chkdsk check the drive on restart, as invalid handles will not apply when restart occurs. Type 'exit' and press enter to exit the cmd window when done. Restart.
