Windows 7 forum: Need help with a USB Dongle problem

Did the person that installed this OS on that machine tell you about bios updates, motherboard and more drivers?

Once in awhile you encounter the new tech that forgot all the drivers.

The computer was built by me and updates are done by me.

I haven't checked lately but MB bios was up to date a little less than a year ago.
This system was built 10/2010 and had a problem two months later sotook it bto a shop and they fiddled and wiped the drive reinstalled then found Ram had gone bad. Hasn't handled the same since.

All windows updates are up to date.

As best as I can tell all drivers are current.

Most folk install Windows 7 and think it's OK. I get to dive in and go get the motherboard chipset drivers and more.

Hope that's a clue what to do next.

It could be but all those read as ok.

They'll look in device manager and see all is OK. Maybe that's a good thing since how else would me friends in PC service continue to have a business?

The usb drivers are ok.
I think the answer I seek is how can Windows 7 see a device and not recognizing it reach out and kill it?
The only other answer would be too much voltage from usb port. How can I test that?

On any and all other forum threads I see you on there is never much help but allways much nastyness. How do you even live with yourself?

Here's the problem. A new to Windows tech may look at the device manager and declare it's all good and then ignore advice about the motherboard drivers.

You're right, I have yet to find a way to tell this new tech that they need to install such anyway. They often have to lose a few weeks of their time to learn this lesson.

My comment about my friends in the PC service is sadly true. As long as Microsoft continues with this system and the new folk ignore the need for an install plan my friends in the land of support will continue to do well.

I'd like to help but you seem to be intent on ignoring advice about the drivers. My comment is to spur you into getting the work done and it appears to have you thinking.

You would find other USB things failing but on a desktop, this is cheap to fix. Go look at USB PCI cards from newegg.com, amazon.com Here's one of many.

I had to take my new machine ti a tech shop. (Couldn't get around a driver problem with rom drives there) and asked him about it and he thought that the front ports were picking up stray current from somewhere.
Got anouther new Dongle and put it in the back where it goes direct to board and all is well.

I wouldn't get a card because those ports are in the back but I will get one that goes in a rom drive port.

I can't see where in this discussion that was revealed but IT IS TRUE that many machines have front port defects.

To fix this I use some USB HUB that plugs into the rear USB port and the hub sits up front for easy access.

At the time I posted I didn't think any difference, but as things unfolded here I also didn't think to up the information.
I do learn by my mistakes so hope this one sticks.

This Dongle tells the software it is OK to work.
The software can be installed on as many machines as you want but only one dongle to make them work.
