I hope I can explain this. Here is what happened; I have a folder on my favorites bar and today went to it to go to a Microsoft site and before my eyes half the saved sites just up and disappeared and came back as tabs in IE 9.
That was bad enough, but then the whole folder and sites, including the tabs, just up and disappeared. My wife thinks I have lost it Help.

Now that it failed you, can you reconsider other browsers?

I don't user IE but it looks like you clicked something to open all favorites in a new tab. That shouldn't have delete all your favorites.

Did you close down IE and try again?

you surely made a backup, didn't you? After all, not having a backup of something means that either you don't mind losing it or you find it easier to rebuild it from scratch.
