I keep my Windows Update on manual and check every few days to perhaps once a week. Today I got a notice that I need to install new Windows Update software. I installed 1 update about a week ago, but big update was on the 2nd tuesday as is usual. The update today has no reference #, I can not review the update as is usual. All I get is;"Install new Windows Update software" To check for updates you must first install an update for Windows Update. Your automatic updating settings will not change. "To install the update, Windows Update will automatically close and re-open." There is also an "Install Now" button. I had to copy all that by hand as could not copy text. I have reviewed some sites about this and no one seems to be mentioning it, last issue I recall was about the patch to keep automatic downloads from being hijacked perhaps 3 weeks ago. May be nothing, but I don't care for updates that give no checkup data to review, so have not allowed this update. I imagine the only people that would know of this update are those with Manual updates, since auto-updates would just do it. This may be a dumb question, but would rather ask a dumb question than spend time reinstalling everything. Is this update real? Would have been issued most likely in last 7 days, although have seen some updates "lag" and become available in slightly different time .periods.
Thanks,
MJS
