Windows Live Mail in Windows7 --a Virus?

Yesterday when I opened my emails I found I had 200 coming in at a rate of 1 a second and as long as I was live they simply continued to pour in. I found they were all copiews of emails already in my inbox. When it reached 980 and I could not keep up with deleting them I switched Live Mail off and today I am dealiung with my mail online direct with talktalk. Has anyone met this 'bug'? If not stopped it is obvious it will flood my hard disk.
I would welcome any advice. Meanwhile I am steadiuly deleting messages while offline before I try again, the idea being that 'it' will have less to 'feed on'.

in WLM to "Delete emails from the server" once they are downloaded.

Find that and make sure it is enabled. Then every time an email is received WLM will tell the email sever to delete it so it doesn't get sent again.

Thanks MarkFlax - it sounds brilliant I'll go offline and try to find that setting. (I daren't go there omline or thousands of emails will fall about my ears while I'm trying to find it! I'll let you know if I succeed

I found that setting and it is doing the trick! Thanks again very very much to MarkFlax.
I would be very interested to know if this has happened to anyone else using Live mail in Windows 7 -- is it a jinx or is it something some gink has cooked up just to cause trouble?

and you're welcome.

It isn't a jinx or anything like that. For some reason email providers and email 'software' providers decided that emails that were downloaded to a user's computer should remain available on the email server, unless otherwise stated.

It is that 'otherwise stated' which you have just enabled in your WLM application, and all email software has this option.

I assume the reason why this option is turned off by default is for business reasons where centralised email servers like Exchange are used to control email accounts for employees.
