Thunderbird massage pane and filter bar problem

Hi Everyone
I have used Thunderbird for years with no problem but lately I have been trying to remove the message Pain (sorry Pane) from view and also the filter Bar but as soon as I leave and go back in its on show again I have tried uninstalling and re installing without success does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem .

a corrupt profile.

I've just tried that with mine, View menu, > Layout > Message Pane, and View > Toolbars > Quick Filter Bar, remove both and when I close the application down and restart it, they are still gone.

But see what happens in Thunderbird's Safe Mode, details here; http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

TB's Safe Mode disables all add-ons and extensions and if the message pain and filter bar remain hidden after testing in this mode, then it seems likely an add-on problem.

I think I may have sorted it

Hi Mark
I may have sorted this annoying problem out this time I uninstalled Thunderbird and then when into application data and deleted my profile file then re installed Thunderbird and set it all up again and it seem to have worked so far so good but thanks for your interest anyway .

Hi Mark I spoke to soon concerning the message pane problem it came back but I am sure I have figured it out now I realised it seemed to come back after I had used Ccleaner so I went into applications in Ccleaner unticked the session box and it seems to have done the trick.

By session box I take it you mean the first window, Applications tab, "Session"?

Glad that it worked for you although I've never had to amend those settings and I've not had the same problem with my Thunderbird.

To be honest I never quite knew what that Session option did.
