are these;

1] Make sure there are not too many applications trying to load at Startup. Use MSCONFIG for that. Go to Start and in the search box type MSCONFIG and open the first entry in the list. Click the Startup tab and work down the list disabling all unwanted applications that try to load at Startup.

Google will help you identify them.

2] Check that no Processes are stealing CPU time in the Task Manager. Right click the Taskbar and select Task Manager. Click the Processes tab and make sure the option at the bottom to "Show processes for all users" is ticked.

It is difficult to say how many processes should be running as all computers are different, but for example my Win 7 Ultimate Desktop has 41 processes running.

Click the CPU column header once or twice to see if any processes other than System Idle Process is stealing the CPU time.

Again, use Google to find out what processes are.

3] Review what Services are running. Start > Search, type in Services, then select "View local services". Disable those you don't want running. BlackViper will help you there. Scroll down to his table of Services in Windows SP1 to see what his recommended settings are.

If your Windows lacks SP1 then I would upgrade it to SP1 as soon as possible.

I assume MB means Malwarebytes' Antimalware.

Mark I just found there is no SP1 for Windows 7 download unless I overlooked it.
