Windows can't open this file...........

What is the best solution for "Windows can't open this file.......", when I have the program installed on my computer and it is not showing it. I use "PAF, Personal Ancestral File", for genealogy and when I have backed up my files onto a "stick", I can't open them. I get the "Windows can't open this file.......etc."

Hello R. Proffitt. I solved my problem. I have to convert the GEDCOM file to a PAF file in the program and I then have no problem. Thank-you for your response.

Backups

Backups often have particular file extensions that can only be used by or opened by the software that created the backups. If you used the Windows' own backup utility to backup these files then you can only restore them by using Windows' own "Backup and Restore" to restore the files and they cannot be opened in any way. They will be "Restored" to replace corrupt files.

We don't know what you used to backup these files.
