win7 64, home premium, toshiba r835
i have been happy with acronis in the past so without much research, i loaded acronis TI12 on my new laptop ( a mistake in retrospect).
problem--
1. after loading, acronis TI12, i turned the windows "back up" on and tried to create a systems image using WIN7 built-in capability but it failed half-way through. error: some file not found.
2. then i un-installed acronis, but now the win7 "backup your computer" capability is completely gone.
any way to restore win7's original backup/restore functionality while my laptop is fully functional orherwise??

I've seen the native system fail so often I never try that. I see a support link at http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

i had sent a help request to acronis before posting...i had already tried what they recommended (my step 1 in my msg).
seems like acronis has over-wrtten certain file(s) which causes the image-creation to fail halfway through the process.
i restored the system to facory-sate with he recovery media and the native backup works fine.
Let's hope that sticks.

The word is that the native backup fails unexpectedly and given how many times folk can't restore my advice (since the days of Windows NT 3.0) is to always have a backup plan.

turns out in my case the reason i was going back to the native backup because acronis failed.
so i ended up restoring to the factory-state and the native works fine (backup and recovery)
Odd to hear Acronis failed.

I usually read a few months later about other failures such as HDDs and other things.
Let me share that CLONEZILLA does not rely on the installed OS to perform a full backup.
Also, my file backup software is non-proprietary, not locked away where I have to use the same restore software. I use Goodsync, Syncback, Dropbox, etc.

ps...is norton ghost any better than acronis? in the past i have always used acronis but this time it failed me.
