and no that won't work, but you can install Win 7, (all the right drivers of course), then download and install both Virtual PC and XP mode into that, then within XP Mode install all the XP software you are currently using. But note, they will have to be installed into that XP Mode, you can't run these programs from within Win 7 or from within XP Mode from the existing Win XP partition.

Just a note about installing Win 7.
Whether you install on a different partition or a different internal hard drive, you should understand that the Dual Boot menu you see will run off the XP partition. That means, to access Win 7 to boot it up, it will look for the BCD file it installed on the XP partition and replaced XP's boot.ini file. So if you delete tha XP partition at some later date, Win 7 will become inaccessible.
