Manage updates with the Download App
My computer was working fine until I downloaded the windows service pack 1. First it was every now & then but soon my computer was freezing up ( not responding ) and it was impossible to even complete a document. This happens in all applications. I noticed with each new window update the worse my computer got. Still under warranty I spent hours on the phone with DELL twice, finally I did a fresh re-install of windows 7 professional.
After the fresh install everything was fine. UNTIL I downloaded the windows updates, it started to 'not respond' again.
I uninstalled the updates. The not responding issue is gone but I am concerned about windows security updates. Do I need them? I have contacted windows about this issue many times over the past several months with no response. Is anyone else having this problem. what should I do?

There have been no reports of problems installing SP1 on a Win 7 system that I have seen, so I wonder if there are any underlying problems with this system.
Any hardware problems, or malware? Any P2P file sharing through torrents?
What anti-virus and firewall are you using? You could try disabling both when you download SP1 then install it.
Have a look at http://windows.microsoft.com/installwindows7sp1 and the section for "Before you begin". It might give clues whether you are missing something when installing.
And if you want to try downloading SP1 and save the file, read on in that same web page where is says "Downloading and installing SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center".

Hi Mark,
thanks for the reply. I use Norton security suite with the malwarebytes upgrade which running 24/7.
I have done all of the diagnostics on my computer several times. Everything is OK.
All drivers are up to date et...
I will go to the direct link as you suggested and try it SP1.
Below is one of many links on the net regarding the not responding issue. Looks like it's been going on since 2009. I have even tried some of the fixes on that are on the windows site with no luck as many others there have done.

I would disable MBAM's 'always running in the background' option and just use MBAM once a week or so to scan for malware other than viruses.
We do not consider it advisable to have anything other than an anti-virus running in the background 24/7 as there will be constant conflict as both utilities attempt to scan the same files.
I would also, just for this exercise, disable Norton's background scanner if possible, when you begin the installation.
