thanks, I seen the option that the laptop can install from usb.
I've used that windows 7 disc on my previous but deceased laptop and it works perfect.
I was thinking of opening up the new laptop and somehow connect the older dvd drive from this old laptop.
Is there anyway to make a bootable usb stick without the use of a dvd drive.I bought the os a while back and lost the windows 7 disc but I've found the iso image I made at that time. Can I make the windows 7 os install from the usb using this iso.

is it a CD or DVD? If so, why can't you use that? Your post isn't clear on that.

I just have a cd drive on my laptop and all I have is a dvd with the recovery image of windows 7.
That's probably why the dvd isn't running. I also don't have any system restore points. Without a dvd drive how else can I make it recover the windows 7 os. As I can I make a recovery image with a cd or usb for it to run on the laptop.

I mean have you played DVD movies on it before? I'm betting the CD drive is a combined CD/DVD drive.

If so, then insert the DVD, restart the computer and before Windows attempts to load access the BIOS and change the Boot Order to allow the system to boot from the DVD.

I have changed the boot order and tried several times with this disc I even booted the disc from the windows repair menu. I have never played a dvd on it but I'll try contacting the owner to find out more about how he got the os on the laptop in the first place

Since the answers on google don't work for you I'm going to advise the usual USB DVDRW drive. It's under 50 bucks and costs less than any shop counter.
