Whomever told you that is someone you would probably be better off never listening to for computer advice again.
There's no such thing as a 32-bit or 64-bit printer, there IS however a 32-bit and 64-bit PRINTER DRIVER and you will need the proper one for your system. If you have a 64-bit OS, you need a 64-bit driver, and that might well be the rub. If it's an older printer (meaning the model itself, never mind your specific printer, is more than 6 months old) then there's a decent chance that it's already been abandoned by the manufacturer. So if there is no 64-bit driver now, there probably never will be. If that is the situation you find yourself in, your printer will almost certainly not work. If, however, there are 64-bit drivers, then you're good to go.
