Windows 7 forum: 32 bit vs 64 bit

Whomever told you that is someone you would probably be better off never listening to for computer advice again.

There's no such thing as a 32-bit or 64-bit printer, there IS however a 32-bit and 64-bit PRINTER DRIVER and you will need the proper one for your system. If you have a 64-bit OS, you need a 64-bit driver, and that might well be the rub. If it's an older printer (meaning the model itself, never mind your specific printer, is more than 6 months old) then there's a decent chance that it's already been abandoned by the manufacturer. So if there is no 64-bit driver now, there probably never will be. If that is the situation you find yourself in, your printer will almost certainly not work. If, however, there are 64-bit drivers, then you're good to go.

You only ever have to be concerned with having the latest driver for your system. These are easily available on the manufacturers website

HP is notorious for not offering updated printer drivers to take advantage of improvements in operating systems. If your HP printer is over 2 years old there's a chance they won't offer an updated printer driver that includes all the functions your printer can do. Their attitude is why should we waste our time designing updated drivers - just buy a new printer. Our own HP was a fancy multi-function model well under 3 years old and it cost hundreds of dollars. Couldn't believe there were no updated drivers and, when we asked HP tech support, they bluntly told us "just buy a new printer". So we did - a Canon ! And when we moved to Windows 7 64-bit we found updated drivers readily available at Canon's USA website, as well as updated versions of all the other software that comes with their multi-function models.

My HP printer did not work (it was 8 years old). I just called HP and they fixed for me. Unless your printer is really old, you should have no problem. Just call manufacturer. Also, my computer is 32 and 64.
