Need help re: Java

Inspirion 545s 00
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
6GB Memory
750GB Hard Drive
Wireless N Networking

I have been unable to get the latest Java Update 31 until this evening. I researched and found how to uninstall and then reinstall which I did and I was able to get the latest and greatest; however, I do have a question.

There are 2 Java listings when I view the programs installed on my computer. One says Java (TM) 6 Update 14 (64 bit) (Sun Microsystems) and has an 11/11/09 date. The other says Java (TM) 6 Update 31 and has the date of 4/12/12.

When checking to see if I have the correct version of Java, it tells me I have the latest and greatest. Should I do anything re: the 64 bit entry. I'm unable to find anything on it and don't know if that's the last update or not. That's a long time ago, so it seems there would be other updates. Does Update 31 cover both the 32 bit and 64 bit?

It's up to you. The 64-bit version is most likely just kind of taking up space unless you're using the 64-bit version of IE or an experimental 64-bit version of Firefox or Chrome. However, it's not really hurting anything by being there. If it bothers you, you can uninstall it or you can choose to ignore it, it really makes little difference either way.

Java Updates - 64 and 32 bit

Thanks for coming to my aid Jimmy. I'll just leave well enough alone and keep going as I've done. I didn't even realize there were 2 Java's; but did realize there were 2 IE's -- the 32 and the 64 bit. I have used both. Again, I appreciate your help. I'll consider my case closed (LOL).
