Windows 7 forum: Windows 8 preview

That is because Windows 8 has dual interfaces. One is the Windows Phone "Metro" style, and then there's the more traditional Windows desktop.

Personally, I am annoyed by this race to the lowest common denominator that both Microsoft and Apple are engaged in. I want to see them go in exactly the OPPOSITE direction, leveraging the unique strengths of both the mobile and desktop platforms. I know with Mac OS X from 10.0 to 10.6 it was a no-brainer upgrade decision, but I'm getting off at 10.7 based on what I see of 10.8. I am thinking much the same from what I've seen of Windows 8. I'll probably just leave all my Windows boxes on 7. I will hold out the possibility that later builds of Windows 8 will make it easier to stick with one mode or the other, but barring that, Win 8 will be a no-go for me.

The whole Linux on the desktop idea will probably finally happen, if only because Microsoft and Apple have abandoned that market leaving no other alternatives for those of us who want our tablets to be tablets and our desktops to be desktops.

Thanks Jimmy for the reply. You feel the same as I do about win 8. Yes, I do remember having win 3.1, the earliest DOS driven OS. The OS came with 9 floppies. The reason why I haven't downloaded any other LINUX OS because UBUNTU seemed like it was geared for people who wanted a similar win system. I would have stuck with it but I had a number of windows applications which was not compatible with LINUX. You had to use the LINUX based applications. If there were more compatibility, I would have stuck with it. Maybe I should look into some of the other LINUX OS. One thing stood clear of win 8 are the blocks of icons which are not really good looking; a very basic 2D effect. All the drivers seem OK though. Anyway I just have to try some other OS. Wouldn't be nice if Apple OS would work with windows.

From where you download it?

The download was easy and transferred the iso to a usable application using Ashampoo burner. You can use most any burner with decoding it. The version I downloaded is 11.1.

I downloaded Windows 8 preview and found it a bit confusing until I realized Windows 8 is really and OS system for MSs new Surface tablet. Once I realized this I understood a little better how Windows 8 will function. I am not as tech savvy and probably 90% of those of you who follow or comment on CNET so in trying to work with Windows 8 obviously because it is a PREVIEW OS, it does not function the way I expect it will work when the fully functional and version comes out. With Windows 8 being in BETA stage, some things do not work. I discovered you cannot purchase the APPs that are shown in the STORE APP. The other issue is trying to install an HP printer. I am trying to install an HP printer that has drivers for Vista or Windows 7. It will not install or even show me a setup.exe or install.exe file.

Can anyone suggest a way to install my HP C310 printer from the Windows 8 program. Thanks for any assistance.
