so,im trying to make my media drive more fun,and i've been playing with the icons.when i realized that there are icons i can download of the actual shows or whatever,i started going that route.my only problem is aesthetics-i have no uniformity,and in some cases i cant find the icons (.ico,to be clear)on the internet.i've tried converting jpegs into icons,i've tried programs that convert them into icons(which had horrible results),ultimately,i just need some freakin help.if you can either make the icons for me or point me in the right direction,thatd be super.i've found some sites that have downloadable icons,but they dont have them for all tv shows,or things like that.like i said,im looking for uniformity.i'd really appreciate the help,please and thank you

I ask because you mention folder icons in your subject title, then talk about icons you can download 'of the actual shows or whatever'.
All I an say at this stage is, if you are talking about video file icons then Windows will attempt to 'render' the file(s) when Windows Explorer displays the contents of a folder containing video files, and then display some frame or other of each video file into an icon. But often that fails because the frame 'grabbed' by explorer is often random, (meaning if it grabs a blank frame then that is what you see), and also it doesn't work with all file types.
Overriding this to add your own icons means delving deep into the code, and that is work for a programmer who does this all the time.

no,an icon the folder the shows get stored in.im not worried about the individual files,i wont even try to pick the screen grab.i mean the root folder for say House,MD.it goes f:/tv shows/House MD/season x/x.avi House MD is the icon im changing from a folder to a downloadable icon

You obviously know that you can customize folder icons, (right click the folder, select Properties, then Customize tab, then change the icon), but you want your own customized icons.
There are tons in Windows. When you select the Change icon option, the next window offers a Browse option and you can look for .dll's and .exe's anywhere on the system for icons they may or may not have.
But since these are folders customizing them with your own images is likely to be more difficult than creating custom file icons.
But what about an alternative? Instead of customizing the folder itself, how about a background image that displays when you open the folder?
In http://www.howtogeek.com/63359/how-to-customize-folder-backgrounds-and-icons-in-windows-explorer/ a suggestion is made for that. Scroll down about a 3rd to "Use a Background Picture for your Folder".
