Startup Repair cannot repair this computer

by slimtim829 - 6/10/10 9:23 PM

Hi I am new to this.

I'm not greatly knowledgeable with computers but I know a fair amount. I am running windows 7 ultimate 32-bit and recently I have been getting freeze ups/blue screens which is followed by windows not booting up. My computer gets to the "Starting Windows" screen where the logo should appear. However the logo does not appear and it just hangs there.
There is an known issue with windows 7 32-bit where if the computer suffers a forced shutdown windows will not load. I've installed the hotfix microsoft has provided but that has not fixed it.
I've ran the repair utility from my installation disc and I get this.

Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 03: unknown
Problem Signature 04: 6
Problem Signature 05: ExternalMedia
Problem Signature 06: 1
Problem Signature 07: 0xf4
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

Does anyone know what this means? I'm assuming it has something to do with my hardware from Problem Signature 05: ExternalMedia

After I got this I ran MEMTEST86+ and it came back with 4 errors. 3 in one stick and 1 in the other. Now I read somewhere that it doesn't always mean my RAM is going. That it could also be other hardware.

On a side note every now and then I get "Disc Read Error - Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" just before it gets to the windows load screen.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Here is some of the system specs. (sorry i cant remember all of it and I'm currently not able to get windows to start)

Windows 7 Ultimate x86
intel core duo
2x 2g DDR2

Thanks.
