You may find dozens of other apps that do that.
I've only been on Win 7 since beta, RC and now with a nice enough dv6 (among others) but this seems to happen once in awhile without any ill effect.
But I can see where consumers might squawk about this. I would not fix this one. I'd ignore it and see if another iTunes version rolls out that exits faster to avoid the message.
Again, this is just one of those things that I feel consumers may squawk about. Windows and apps are not perfect but are approaching the works most of the time status. If you want perfection we may have to wait a bit longer.
There is an iTunes SERVICE that runs to help launch iTunes when you connect the iPod/iThings. You could stop that service if you can handle the downsides.
