Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus HD not recognized by Windows 7 64-bit

My Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus HD [750-gb] is not recognized by the Windows 7 64-bit system on my newest laptop [Toshiba Satellite P505-S8960]. It worked fine on a previous Toshiba laptop running Vista. Is there an ongoing problem with Windows 7, particularly 64-bit, and the inability to recognize the external HD? Could it be a software or driver issue? Seagate is not very helpful with providing a resolution to the problem. I purchased my 750-gb Maxtor HD and 2 more 500-gb HDs as gifts. It seems that Seagate's takeover of Maxtor does not include good customer service. Any ideas out there?

The bad news is that this drive may work on other machines. Would you pay to correct your machine if this drive worked on other machines? Most won't and then we find owners upset about support. Support is now a pay as you go affair and doesn't include "make it work on my machine" unless we pay for that.

Your complaint about support is well known but we asked for this. We asked for lower prices and got them.

No more Seagate for me!

Even though I purchased a total of 3 Maxtor (Seagate)HDs previously, I am more than ready to jump ship due to their lack of support. Recently bought a Western Digital Passport 750 GB. So far, so good. Set up in a flash and is quite small in size. Loaded my Adobe apps and they are running just fine. Guess I'll find out if it outlasts the Maxtor.
