Where to buy Windows 7 Home Premium?

No OEM and no Upgrade.

Full retail version.

Can't find anywhere cheaper than $179. Is there a student discount I can use somewhere?

Are you a college student? If so, your college or university might have a discounted software program. These won't be in the same retail packaging as you'd get from a computer store or e-tailer and will come with restrictions. Occasionally you'll see a few dollars marked off of the retail price or some sort of bundled deal with other hardware but there's no deep discounting these. Even XP, where you can find it, isn't at fire sale prices.

Microsoft dictates the price that all retailers have to abide by. If you are a qualifying student, then others have already given you some leads. If you're not a qualifying student, then you would be in violation of the EULA, thus making it an illegal copy even if it may install and activate.

You can purchase the full version of Windows 7 Home premium online: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/shop or from a trusted retailer. As mentioned, if you are a student you can buy with discount from your university.
