Windows 7 forum: Can I copy cds and dvds using Windows 7?

Two titles I have installed to do this are:

CDBURNERXP (don't let the XP in the name fool you)

IMGBURN (for other recording needs)

About what 7 does. I found MSFT's efforts to be a nice try but bound up in what a committee would product rather than a feature that would "do that."

I have been told that it is not possible to make copies of a cd or dvd (that is the contents of the existing disk) to a blank cd or dvd using either Windows Explorer or Media Center features.

Am I over looking something here?

Although I haven't yet tried making a cd or dvd of data files on my HDD, I am aware that either Windows Explorer or Media Center will accomplish this using my PCs burner.

If you're wanting disk duplicating ability, I'd go with R.Proffitt's suggestion. I use Nero 6 but also tried CDBurnerXP on my XP machine. It's compact and works fine. I haven't put it on my Win 7 machine but it's supposed to work. Windows 7's CD/DVD burning application is media oriented and not a duplicator. Burning files to disk and disk duplication are different operations. I'd give the suggested application a try. The price is right...FREE.

It doesn't look friendly but it's a good tool to have. Yes you could duplicate a CD/DVD with it but it's a few steps where CDBURNERXP would be less with a click on the Copy Data DVD button. Hint: A video DVD is a data dvd when using these copy programs.

Yes, it will work, I use the same programs.
