Windows 7 forum: Poll: Will you upgrade to Windows 7 when it's released October 22?

First, I'm OK with vista on my three PCs. Second, I just bought a Mac, and I use it 99percent of the time now. Third, I tried the 7 free trial, and all I could think to say about it was, "wow, people will actually pay to 'upgrade' to this?". I wasn't impressed. It looked and worked exactly like Vista, only I couldn't get some old stuff to work on 7 that did work on Vista. Fourth, like I said, I just bought a Mac, so, I don't have any extra money laying around to waste on a new MS fiasco.

hell no I won't !! I'm quite contented with my XP thank you very much. wait awhile fools,...micro-idiots will come up with another excuse to spend money on...I have zero reason to buy anything!!!

I bought a Sony VAIO Notebook with Vista Business on it. It is about 2 years old now and to this day, I have NEVER gotten it to work correctly. You might argue that some of this is hardware related but the fact remains that I could never reliably use the computer, which had a $2,300 Price Tag. I paid for what I thought was the best, and both Vista and Sony support was horrible. In fact, Sony realized how bad Vista was and very shortly after releasing my model, offered an "XP Downgrade" which they had the gall to charge money for.

For the first time ever, I paid top dollar and purchased an MacBook Pro, and have not looked back , except for a few PC-based programs I enjoyed.

I won't to the MAC-PC comparison, but I am very happy with the switch, and finally feel I got value in use as I now spend Much more time "computing" and less time troubleshooting.

SOOOOOOOO, the "long answer" is... HELL NO. I will not. Slowly I will be replacing all my PC based computers with Mac products, this from a person who has built 20 PC machines and purchased another 40 over time, for my businesses.

I skipped going to Vista (kind of glad too). I built my system and need to do all the drive updates myself. I want to leave the 32 bit world and head into the 64 bit realm, so I want to see and hear a few of the related problems that may come with the conversion into a new OS system.

"Help files are almost non-existant. For example, if you search for System Restore you will not find it. You can find it by other methods but it very difficult to find." - It is a pre-release test version, they build those in near the end when everything has properly bakes so they don't have to rewrite them later.

"If you put internet exployer on your quick launch bar and open a web site, you cannot open another web site without going first to programs and then clicking on internet exployer, Clicking on the icon on the quick launch bar will not open multiple windows." - Move to Firefox or Chrome, not that IE8 is bad, but it still has a bit of growing to do before it catches up.

"There is no outlook express. Instead you must download the near worthless 'Windows Live Mail.'" - Outlook Express was retired in Vista (changed to "Windows Mail") and 7 (to decrease bloat) removed the Mail app from the disc. "Windows Live Mail" is the successor to Outlook Express(for more info see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Live_Mail ). Alternatively you could move to Mozilla Thunderbird (http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/ ).

"There are many changes; they are not improvements but require you to take a lot of time learning the different method." - I sort of agree, but it was changed in Vista. In a few months we all will get used to it. (Why did they change Add/Remove Programs to Programs and Features?)

Windows 7 is released. Things like the helpare added later rather then earlier. One Pro you didn touch on is networking. The tools in Vista and Windows 7 are much better then XP. Windows mail or Outlook Express aren't part of the OS. Windows Live mail allows you to set up pop email accounts as well as web accounts such as yahoo and Outlook Express was only for pop accounts. Accessing you most popular applications faster and easier is also a big advantage of Windows 7. The biggest advantage is Windows 7 will be supported for years to come by both MS and the hardware vendors. As time goes on new devices such as printers, routers and others will stop working because of the lack of drivers.

I already pre-ordered the Upgrade, it's a steal at $49.99.
Only wish I could do it today, even though I'm happy with Vista.
Haven't seen a BSOD since XP.

I ran the utility Microsoft provided to see if I could load the beta onto my laptop, out of curiosity. Since my computer is apparently lacking the resources, I guess I'll get it whenever I get a new computer. I'm one of those people who went kicking and screaming from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95. I've been burned by the bleeding edge of technology before, so I'll let the more adventurous go first.

I just got a system with Vista x64 on it. I'll give it some time. Will only pursue a switch to Windows 7 if I can't fully integrate the 3 other OS' I have installed. Like a new car model, it's best to wait until after the kinks have been ironed out a bit.

I will be upgrading to windows 7 when it does come out. It will not be incorrect to say Windows Vista is a failure. It looks good but the scrolling through windows and search is absolutely cumbersome. A hit and miss for some, I would definitely say Microsoft surprised me with Windows Vista. I was expecting something ground breaking...

For some people switching to Apple would be the ultimate kick. I don't know, I am undecided on that. I have been with Microsoft for so long but they are made to look bleak at the hands of the Apple.

It's somehow similar to how it is with phones. I am a blackberry user and a lot of people love blackberries while some apple protagonists feel that it's about time everyone lays down to Apple's iphone. I have an ipod touch and it's a brilliant device which helps me not miss the iphone too much.

Coming back to the topic of discussion, it is interesting how 1/3rd of the people are sure that they will not be switching to windows 7. There used to be a time people would blindly upgrade to whatever was the newest Windows. I saw that with Windows 98. It seemed like the only option. Then came the big and mighty windows XP which demanded a new PC and new ram. Then came windows Vista which I thought would be outstanding but it wasn't. It definitely doesn't hang as much as my XP did. I do still get the BSOD which points out that my ram is faulty.

Windows 7. I have only heard good things about. A lot of people have downloaded cracked copies but I'm waiting for the real thing. I support buying original software. The last thing I want is Microsoft on my trail for validation and all that gibberish.

Windows 7, here i come.

However, if windows 7 does disappoint (somewhat unlikely) , I will switch to a Mac after saving on two or three months worth of income.

We still use Windows XP at work. Almost all retail stores use windows xp because it is the only one compatible with the certificates and so on and so forth.

Twenty years of aggravation, poor customer service and broken promises are enough. Now all xp users need to do a clean install and get screwed on most of functionality. Finally admitting defeat and putting out a Mac like machine just cements my move. Macs will run windows when needed and blow past microsoft in everything else. Its worth the difference in money period. Ballmer is late to the party and if he wants to retain his xp users it should be a free upgrade and help for all the screwing and lack of service in the past. Good bye and good riddance.

I won't be upgrading to Windows, but rather Snow Leopard. ...maybe I'll decide to run Windows 7 in a Virtual environment later, but I don't really need it, my business has been all Mac for the last 2 years.

No! I have 2 computers with ME, 2 with XP and 2 with Vista of the 6 the two with the Vista I like the best. I hear that W7 already is having problems. I won't get W7 until they plug all the holes and fix all the glitches and then maybe get a machine with it already installed I don't want any carrie over problems from other OS that tend to linger on the HD. Maybe ask me again in a year, I'm totally happy with vista I never did see what all the fuss was about with this OS!

Definitely. I have been using the RC version since its release and it is the most stable and easy to use version of the OS yet. Huge improvement on Vista.
