Below you'll find the settings I found best for viewing the Toshiba 55L7200U in a dim room via the HDMI input. Your settings may vary depending on source, room conditions, and personal preference. Check out the Picture settings and calibration FAQ for more information.

Calibration notes: In the best default Mode, Movie, the 55L7200U measured quite blue (almost 8000K) with too-dark gamma. The main culprit was an errant default color temperature preset; when I changed it from "2" to "0" the grayscale measured a much more respectable 6900K.
As with previous high-end Toshibas like the TL47515U I tested last year (http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/toshiba-47tl515/4505-6482_7-34504807.htm) my calibration revolved around a basic choice: to DynaLight or not to Dynalight. The Dynalight setting, which controls local dimming, did cause black levels to improve significantly when engaged, but the tradeoff was poor gamma and shadow detail. I ended up using the least aggressive setting, Low. Even in Low mode the gamma/shadow detail tradeoff is significant, but I chose it for its significantly better black levels than Off.
The Static Gamma settings has a massive 30 presets and I only measured a few (+15, +10, +5). I settled on +5 as the best compromise between low and high light output levels. It's impossible to get a flat gamma if you leave DynaLight on.
The two-point grayscale control worked well, but the Color Master CMS proved impossible to adjust with window patterns since Red and Blue measured too dark. I left it turned off as a result and adjusted color using the TV's blue-only mode.
