HDTV picture settings forum: Samsung LN40D550 picture settings

I measured better color points/saturation/balance using Native and better (more linear) Gamma using Shadow detail +1. I didn't notice any overt auto-dimming during program material at that settins so I didn't consider that an issue.

On the set I tested, the shadow detail setting had a great effect on overall gamma (not just on the low end). It may also control the intensity of the auto-dimming backlight, but again I didn't see evidence of such.

At SD +1 the gamma was more linear overall...basically 2.2 overall with a minor spike at 50% (2.38) and the typical dip at 90% (2.034), again pretty minor comparatively speaking. At SD +2 average gamma was worse overall (about 2.1) with a big dip at 90% (1.71).

Do you think these settings would work well with a Samsung LN40E55? I can't find setting recommendations for that model anywhere (Maybe the model number is a Best Buy exclusive). I just bought one and after days of fiddling with the settings it still looks a bit...off.

I can calibrate for Blu-ray fairly well with a calibration disc I have, but I'm trying to calibrate it for my Dish receiver.

just ran them through their paces and oh man it does not work for the e550 way too washed out. Must be a different panal altogether.
