Quickie calibration

The answer is YES, all sets should be properly calibrated. But, if you are not in a controlled environment (i.e. custom built home theater) you can do a pretty good job with calibration disc on your own. All THX DVDs have a calibration tool on them (think: Star Wars discs) It's called THX Optimizer and it's easy to follow, and easy to tweak (although not always easy to find in the menus)
Professional calibration is well worth the money. The store will probably not use a calibraion device (a $5000 tool), so just do what they do, and use a disc.
