Mail not showing correctly

About 2 weeks ago my mail started coming in and showing for example 20 in the folder, but when you go in, there will be only 1 or 2 emails from years ago, nothing recent. I have uninstalled and re-installed and still nothing.

somewhere in the toolbar, for hiding certain emails, eg unread emails?

Have a look at the buttons or icons in the toolbar, or the folder.

All setting are correct

The option is set to show all mail, but i have a folder that say 123 in it but only one shows when you go to view that folder.
