How to remove "Friends" from my Windows Live Profile Page

On the right side of my profile page are my "Friends". How can I remove some of them, but still keep them in my contacts lists to be contacted in Messenger. I only want two people visible, who can see the others profile picture.
I've read all the ways you can "hide" and delete them, but it's not what I need.
I know how to go into my Privacy Settings and drag the slider all the way to the left to "Just Me." Right now, that's what I did, but my contacts know I am "hiding" everyone (not good). I know how to make a new Category and place contacts there, which are not visible on my Profile Page.
Right now I have 5 contacts visible on my Windows Live Profile Page. I only want two visible, but I want them to be able to see the others profile. For personal reasons, they will get mad if they can't see anyone visible. They will know I am trying to hide something (I am).
What I don't understand is that I also went into the actual Category named "Friends" and added and deleted contacts, but the original 5 "friends" are still visible on my Windows Live Profile Page.
I hope someone can help.
