I had a problem w/ my email for a couple days, kept getting the error "Recovering the Windows LIve Database". Seemed it was locking up my computer, so I openened it before bed and this morning it was open.
I have about 20 email accounts in it from Optonline (cable), Gmail, AOL. I had at least 50 folders in at least 2 emails and 10's of thousands of emails (that I was working on getting rid of)
All my folders are gone and so are all my emails. IDC about the Gmail ones, but my main optonline emails are gone. Bill notices, payment confirmations, every picture I ever sent from my phone (they might be on Gmail tho, will have to check). EVERYTHING.
What happened, and is it possible they are still on the computer and I just need to find them?

As we say here: you only use what you don't backup. Are these mails so unimportant that you didn't make a backup? Then it's not important they gone also!
All you can do: restore those files from the recycle bin and hope for the best.
After that: find out what data to backup to be able to reconstruct your full mail archive on any other PC and select a nice backup medium (even better: 2 different ones, stored at different locations).
Just like you do for your music, your pictures, your documents and all other things you don't want to lose. Do you?

Wow. Talk about "I hate to tell you I told you so....."
My boss' computer had a nasty virus last week and it took me 3 days to clean the computer. I used the excellent help of the Avast Forums and not ONCE did someone ask if I backed anything up. Why? Because that's NOT why I was there. I was there for help in getting rid of a virus. Not to get kicked when I was already down.
This message board wouldn't even exist if everyone were perfect. Well, news flash... humans aren't perfect.
I guess I"m just shocked that I was "reprimanded" when I asked for help with something.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/where-are-the-windows-live-mail-files-saved/63217c8f-d773-4826-ab92-7f9189ef2870 tells you where these mails are by default (unless you specified otherwise). Did you have a look there? It's a folder that normally is hidden, so set the folder options in Explorer to show hidden files and folders also.
If all your files still are present that doesn't mean that they are readable and uncompromised. But if they are, you might be able to get your mail out via some third party recovery program if WLM itself can't do it.
