threaded discussion feature

Have I missed something? Google apps and Windows Live apps purport to be all about "collaboration" but how can we collaborate effectively without effective communication? Sharing documents is one thing but how about a threaded discussion about those documents and the topics they relate to? I am using Google and Windows Live quite a lot for group work and I just think the whole frame work needs re-thinking. In Windows Live there are two ways to share documents - through "groups" and through "documents". This can be confusing and I've had some team members saving their info to folders they created in the group, while others share to some folders they created and then gave permission to group members to edit.
And what's with the measly 1GB of storage in Google? They dish out 7GB email accounts, so why can't we use some of this for our docs? I loved the Gspace system we had before and I would be happy to see this project resurrected by interested persons who can see how.
Is anyone else on the same page, or have I simply lost my grip on the page, the chapter, the whole book and gone off into la la land. Do tell.
