How to change the Read Item Header font in Windows Live Mail

The headers in my Inbox are all a washed out grey colour, once I've read the mail. I want to change this to black or a darker grey or blue but I cannot see how. I've tried changing the "Disabled Item" font in Control Panel as suggested here but that didn't work.

I don't want to set up a Rule to Highlight mails, this seems a stupid over-complicated method for something that should be simple.
