How to access Hotmail acc which was not my Windows Live ID?

I had a hotmail account many years back but didn't use it as my Windows Live ID (I used a Yahoo! for Windows Live instead). I can't access it now because I've forgotten the password to the hotmail account.

How can I access it again?

Resetting password did not help because the page only recognised my Yahoo! acc as the only Windows Live ID (I've tried it).

Hotmail accounts are deleted after being inactive for I believe 7 months. Are you sure this isn't the case?

hotmail accounts being inactive after 7 months

That's stupid for ones that are security accounts. How do I change my security account when I can't get in it because it's not a windows live ID or made inactive?
